Hartford House is South Africa’s first-choice wedding venue in the land’s favourite romantic hideaway, the natal midlands. its historic surrounds, great style and unique ambiance, have seen Hartford “marry” generations of the same family.
Your wedding is, in all probability, the single most important moment in your life, and Hartford has the capacity to make it a life-changing event. There is only one mould for each Hartford nuptial occasion, which means we never repeat the same act twice.
Your wedding is a reflection of your own distinct personality, and it’s our job to ensure that shines through in the individuality of the occasion. It’s what separates us from the crowd, and is perhaps the single-most significant reason why, decades after they first tied the knot, couples still return, year after year, to celebrate their anniversaries “at home”.
Our services include the complete co-ordination and arrangement of your wedding, (if you wish,) decoration of the venue (on request), the accompanying feast or banquet, floral, photographic and make-up arrangements, the hire of catering, seating and lighting equipment, cutlery, crockery, linen etc., as well as the engagement of musicians, bands and where necessary, an introduction to a minister of religion.
Of course, anything we can do for a wedding, applies to a birthday, anniversary or baptism, including the “stamp” of your personal signature. There is little we cannot do, other than invite you to put us to the test!

Venue
'The School Of Excellence'
Housed in the premises of our School of Excellence, our wedding venue caters for parties from 50 to 200 guests, in the most spectacular stone-clad facility under Midlands thatch.
Fold-away doors and windows command vistas over a cascading series of lakes at the foot of the garden, while the cool of winter is offset by underfloor heating throughout.
A spectacular entrance hall featuring a stone fireplace and the official FIFA 2010 World Cup chandelier, at once defines the importance of this address and the significance of the occasion.
The venue is a few minutes drive from the Hotel .
Chapel
Designed and built by a senator, the last prime minister of Colonial Natal and the first prime minister of South Africa, the Hartford Chapel came from humble beginnings. It was the foundation of what is now NCD Dairies, the continent's largest dairy business, and the tethering rings for the cows that graced its hallowed confines, still line its historic walls. Today it serves as a multi-denominational facility serving not only local religious communities, but also the weddings and memorial services of Hartford's guests.
Garden Ceremony
Hartford prides herself on her gardens, once described by celebrated author, Nancy Gardner, as the "jeweled buckle of the Midlands". The gardens provide the perfect setting for your celebration, wedding, birthday or baptism.
The choice is yours; our century-old chapel, the garden gazebo, the round fountain under 100 year old trees.
The adventurous have tied the knot in Summerhill's stone-clad yearling preparation stable yard.
Wherever you choose, you'll know it happened on one of the world's most enchanting estates.
THE LAKESIDE SUITES

these suites are named for the three families that have occupied Hartford for the first 150 years of its existence.
THE GARDEN & POOL SUITES
Erected in celebration of Hartford’s transition into hospitality, these suites have prime locations in the establishment’s award-winning gardens.
THE VERANDAH SUITES
Built in an era when the prime mode of transport was on horseback, the “stables” were home to the carriage horses of the estate’s first custodians.
